As a science teacher you will help children and young people explore the fascinating world of science, inspiring interest in a field that will dramatically affect our lives in the 21st century. Watch your students’ faces light up as they understand a new concept or become engaged in an experiment. Teaching is truly a meaningful career, and science teaching is especially important as the foundation for a world-class education.

Requirements for graduation from the Bachelor of Science Degree in Middle Grades Science Education are:

  1. Satisfactory completion of all three (3) parts of the Florida Teacher Certification Exam (FTCE).

  2. Students must achieve a cumulative GPA of not less than a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale in all courses attempted (including transfer hours, but, excluding college preparatory courses) and in all courses attempted at Indian River State College.

  3. Successful completion of Student Teaching (MAE 4945, EEX 4940, EDE 4940, or SCE 4941).

  4. All Baccalaureate Education majors must achieve a grade of "C" or better in all content area courses within their declared Program of Study. Content area courses are science courses for Middle Grades Science Education majors. Thus, a grade of "C" or higher is required for BSC 2010, BSC 2010L, BSC 2011, BSC 2011L, CHM 1020, CHM 1045, CHM 1045L, CHM 1046, CHM 1046L, PHY 1020, PHY 2053, PHY 2053L, PHY 2054, PHY 2054L, PCB 4043 and PCB 4043L.

Also required: Completion of all lower-division state-mandated common prerequisites including the Education prerequisite: EDF 2005.
