RED 4348 Literacy Development K-12

This course provides an understanding of reading instruction through the elementary,middle, and secondary school levels. It presents learning to read as a continuous process that impacts all academic success; this course focuses on “reading to learn.” Students will acquire specific understanding of reading as student engagement in both the fluent decoding of words as well as construction of meaning. This course focuses on the 4th to 12th grade student; assignments should be completed with the specific focus on 6th graders and nonfiction texts. This course is aligned with Competency 2 of the Florida Reading Endorsement: Application of Research-Based Instructional Practices.
